When executives at Hard Rock International decided to revitalize a historic property in Hollywood, FL, they knew they wanted to make it big. What the architecture and design teams didn’t anticipate was that “going big” meant something never seen before—and in Les Paul form.

Since opening in October 2019, the Guitar Hotel, as it’s known, has quickly become one of the most prominent and recognizable attractions in South Florida, literally lighting up the night sky – 30,000 feet Directly – to be exact – project twinkling towers of multi-colored lights representing guitar necks and strings with heavy light cannons.
It’s a spectacular spectacle that can be seen for miles in every direction — and a fitting representation for a destination that took 12 years and $1.5 billion to build, all to make the once-faded “Vegas” torch a reality. with the goal of bringing back The resort, which first opened in 2004.
A hotel with such a grand exterior had to extend the unique charm to the interior. And it started with the hotel’s main lobby and hallway, designed by three architectural firms: Klai Juba Wald Architecture + Interiors, Plus Rockwell Group and Hernandez Design Associates.
The collective envisioned a three-dimensional geometric ceiling, which has become an attraction in itself since the hotel opened. They worked with Architectural to create a unique curved, table-like structure from the company’s Decostic Custom Ceiling System line that spans the grand foyer space in the lobby.

The architect was challenged to create a completely unique solution to bring a 3D design to life – the first of its kind – providing a structure that offers acoustic performance to control ambient noise from passing crowds. does
To achieve this, structural engineers used raw acoustic materials from the Decoustics Claro® Collection, which offers a wide range of customization options, including sizes, shapes and colors, and achieves NRC values of up to 0.90. .
The design calls for 448 oversized 3D acoustic shapes that appear to float in the air while the shape of the curved roof, which spans over 3,400 square feet and consists of two square and two rectangular geometric shapes. The modules consist of panels that are tapered and tapered, preserving the fine alignment and geometry of the panels. Each module measures 46″ by 84″ and weighs approximately 120 pounds.
To reduce weight, each panel was made with a special hollow core construction and different material thicknesses were used to achieve the overall massive look and 3D effect.

A steel frame suspension was also custom made to maintain the shape of each module, supporting the weight but remaining almost invisible to the suspended ceiling effect. To complete this look, the panels were embedded with special extrusions to attach to the grid.
The finished lobby ceiling is a striking geometric sculpture that provides guests with a striking visual impact – shapes that form a repeating pattern that is mirrored on both sides of the arch – all while making minimal noise.
On the casino floor, guests can indulge in a variety of table games. The maze of slots, blackjack, craps and roulette offers game seekers a veritable playground of chance. A surface that can be seen almost everywhere on the casino floor: the ceiling. The casino ceiling features a unique installation in which a series of Tavola™ prime aluminum beams from Architectural provide cues that guide visitors through the space.
Above the rows of slot machines, Tvola™ Prime aluminum beams in Chatham Oak wood-look film finish complete the look. Baffles visually connect the beams with a linear aesthetic that follows the same curve, creating a consistent look that frames the slots.

The design vision for both the lobby hall and casino floor ceiling called for a ceiling solution that could push the limits of raw materials, engineering and acoustic performance. Architecture not only approaches production requirements, but also assists in every step of the process, from concept and installation to achieving the architect’s vision. The architectural team provided design advice, technical expertise and installation support – including a custom installation instruction video – throughout the life of the project to understand the project and bring the complex roof to life.
