According to the James Bond actor himself, No Time to Die came from an idea that Daniel Craig had during the making of Casino Royale.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Craig explained why he changed his mind after his last appearance on the Specter as 007. “I finished the movie with a broken leg. I’m not complaining about it, it’s just the way it is,” he said. “I had to ask myself: Was I physically able to do [more] or did I want to physically do another? Because that phone call to your wife that I broke my leg is not pleasant.”

He continued, “But I had a break. It was five years and we had an idea, the idea I had in Casino Royale. I talked to Barbara [Broccoli, producer] about it and she said, ‘Yeah, Anna’s.’ comes back.’ We fleshed out that idea and it became the plot, or at least it became what we intended it to be, and I’m very, very, very glad we did.”

No Time to Die sees Bond take on Rami Malek’s villain Safin, while Léa Seydoux returns as Madeleine Swann and Captain Marvel’s Lashana Lynch joins the series as 2000s Agent Nomi. Craig’s Knives Out actress Ana de Armas also makes her debut as Paloma, with Jeffrey Wright returning as Felix Leiter and Christoph Waltz as Blofeld.

The film is now in UK cinemas and will hit US cinemas on October 8, and has already broken Pandemic box office records.

Bond is the best card player in the service, so his boss M (Judi Dench, a sole ruler from the Brosnan era) tells him to beat Le Chiffre. MI6 then hopes to bring Le Chiffre after his terrorist allies.

Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) is the British government’s “money” and Bond’s eyes and ears. She’s clearly in love with 007, but doesn’t give in to his charms so easily. She’s not just a bimbo either; she is a mature woman – professional and in every way Bond’s spiritual counterpart. After beating Le Chiffre, Bond finds himself tied to a naked chair and being tortured. This turn of events eventually leads to something that the misogynist, sexual conqueror Bond never thought he would fall victim to: love.

A recovering Bond, unable to use the golden gun in his pants for a while, falls truly and deeply in love with Vesper, and they plan a new life together. He took her emotional armor. But before you can say never again, Bond realizes the bad guys aren’t quite done with him yet. Ultimately, Bond is becoming the icy, lethal secret agent—”the blunt instrument” Fleming envisioned—that men want to be and women want to be.
