The Hippodrome is a building at the corner of Cranbourn Street and Charing Cross Road in the City of Westminster, London. The name was used for many different theaters and music venues, of which the London Hippodrome is one of the few to survive. Hippodrome is an archaic word referring to places where horse racing and other forms of equestrian entertainment take place.
London Hippodrome was opened in 1900. It was designed by Frank Matcham for Moss Empires chaired by Edward Moss and built for £250,000 as a racecourse for circus and variety shows. Vue held its first show on January 15, 1900.

The performance space contained a proscium stage and a sunken macaw in a 230-foot, 100,000-gallon (about 400-ton, full) water tank for aquatic shows.
