This was done to reduce the gambling burden on local residents. However, according to the Hindustan Times, a recent survey found that only 1.1 percent of locals prefer to gamble in casinos, with the rest playing lotteries or drafts. There are currently 6 offshore casinos located on ships and 9 land-based casinos located in 5-star hotels in Goa.
