The pyramids would be one of the most amazing sights I have ever seen, the size of the pyramids is unimaginable, it really has to be seen to be believed! Besides the pyramids, Cairo has many things to see and do, such as the Egyptian Museum, the Muhammad Ali Mosque and the Hanging Church.
If you’re looking for something a little outside the hustle and bustle of a busy city center, look no further than Zamalek Island. It is centrally located for day trips and easy access to everywhere, but is completely removed from the busy and hectic lifestyle of the rest of Cairo.

When looking for hotels in Cairo, we wanted to be centrally located for the convenience of our day trips and to have the convenience of spending some time in the hotel during our free time.
Traveling around a bit, we created a small war chest of loyalty points that we needed (wanted) to use. The two hotel groups we were considering were Accor Hotels or Marriott and we were intrigued by the Marriott description.
The resort is huge, the hotel was originally announced to have been built as a palace by Khedive Ismail in 1869. In the description it says that there is a restaurant in the area. Before the review, you can believe me when I say that this place is the greatest hotel I have stayed at. You even get a map of the hotel area.
I booked an Executive room at the Marriott which included access to the Executive Lounge. The lounge offers a good breakfast all day, free snacks and soft drinks, as well as a small buffet where you can enjoy alcohol in the evening. I’ll get back to this in a bit!!

In addition, upon entering the reception, we were greeted by very kind porters who directed us to the check-in desk, where guests were offered refreshing raspberry lemonades to enjoy during the check-in process . Our receptionist, Sally, was warm, spoke good English and most importantly was efficient.
Not so good – enjoying a refreshing drink and a warm welcome, we went to the concierge desk to get a map and inquire about available tours. We had a couple in mind and needed to know which ones were available or if they had specific recommendations. The staff’s English was below average and they honestly didn’t understand our question at all, we weren’t sure what the staff could help us with (given the role!). We did some research ourselves, which is not something you want to do on vacation.
The room (1420) was spacious and had a large balcony with stunning views of the Nile, grounds and pool area.
When you arrive after a long flight, it’s always nice to check into your room and have a surprise!! This was no exception, a tray of fresh fruit and complimentary bottled water awaited us in the room.
