The Hippodrome is a building on the corner of Cranbourn Street and Charing Cross Road in the City of Westminster, London. The name was used for several theaters and music halls, of which the London Hippodrome is one of the few to survive. Hippodrome is an archaic word that refers to places where horse racing and other forms of equestrian entertainment take place.
London Racecourse opened in 1900. It was designed by Frank Matcham for the Moss Empires run by Edward Moss and built at a cost of £250,000 as a racecourse for circus and variety shows. Vue gave its first performance on January 15, 1900,
Try vue was inside a bar, dressed like a ship’s saloon. Performance spaces included a 230-foot, 100,000-gallon water tank (about 400 tons, wh full) for water shows.
