There is enough light on the beach, glittering ships, glittering billboards and reflections from the surface of the river which is dynamic in the monsoons. The numbers are hard to come by because most casinos are reluctant to talk numbers – and most are reluctant to talk. But the net sales of Delta Corporation, the only company involved in the casino gaming industry in India, fell by around Rs 800 crore in 2018-19. 418 million dinars in 2020-21. Its operating profit fell from Rs 320 crore to less than Rs 22 crore during the period, marking the scars the pandemic has left on the industry. The numbers have led the company to finance a new fleet with similar capacity to its three existing casinos in Goa, and indicate that the gaming industry could be a winning bet for a long-term investor.
Tejwant Singh, who handles a myriad of roles for Casino Pride, including marketing, entertainment and answering the phone listed on their website, tells a story he heard from one of their first timers this year: “He said my dad earned. Too much, kept earning, stopped us from spending, And then he died of covid last year. He made money all his life, but he never enjoyed it, he never traveled. What did he achieve? He left without enjoying a life he had.

He describes the incident as a way to explain that while foot traffic may not be as high as it was in pre-Covid days, visitors are spending more. “The appetite for risk has increased. People are afraid of another lockout…” He trails off, he’s fat.

Is it safe? How do I get on board and will it sail (or not)? Beginners usually spend a few hours in the evening on their first visit to the casino, and experienced card players can spend days without realizing it.
