It was founded on August 2, 1898 by Geoffroy Guichard under the company name Guichard-Perrachon & Co.
As a historical player in mass market retailing in France, the group started to grow internationally in the 90s. In 1999, it acquired GPA and Grupo Éxito, leading companies in mass market retailing in Brazil and Colombia.
Casino Group operates in all food and non-food formats: hypermarkets, supermarkets, concession stores, discount stores and wholesale stores. In addition to the namesake “Géant Casino” and “Casino Supermarchés”, the Casino Group also owns other brands such as Monoprix, Franprix, Leader Price, Cdiscount, Vival, Spar, Sherpa and Le Petit Casino.

Geoffroy Guichard was born on July 27, 1867 in Feurs, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Half of them owned a grocery store in Saint-Étine.
