Singapore recently opened the Marina Bay Sands hotel and the area has shops and a casino. Coming from Las Vegas, they brought the view here and I have to say I felt like I was not on the island of Singapore. Even the restaurants and Casino came from Las Vegas. The casino has 500 tables and 1500 slot machines. Imagine how big it is. It is a mega gambling empire.
When Was Marina Bay Sands Built?
After a delicious meal of delicious meat at a newly opened restaurant called “Cut” (which I will write about tomorrow), my dear friend from Singapore took me to see the casino from a bird’s eye view. We are standing on the balcony of the third floor looking at the table of 500. The feeling is different from the one I felt before.
When you see it for the first time you are in awe and fear. It’s a huge space of curves and lights. For a few seconds I did not understand what I was seeing until my mind started to adjust. So you see. Suddenly it was like this. Underneath all the curved lights in the center of this large ringed area, which for some reason reminds me of my future bee, are hundreds and hundreds of tables. If you look closely, you will see that they are covered in green or blue and the cards are decorated. It really looks like a beehive. I feel like I’m in a sci-fi movie. Yellow lights and curved walls give it a wonderful glow.
Then, once your eyes adjust to what you see, your ears begin to take on a special shape that vibrates slowly and flutters in the air. It’s not like the sounds you hear in Japanese Pachinkos, but the sound is just like an “E” that is slowly humming. It sounds and somehow I feel it penetrate me. There is a kind of eerie silence mixed with the sound of slot machines and people playing black jack that makes this “E” so repulsive. Maybe it’s because I’m standing where the sounds blend together and have a delay effect, but it’s an amazing feeling nonetheless.
We were taking pictures but only a few of the flash that was being used, a security officer dressed in black with a phone in his ear came out from where he was and told us to stop taking pictures. He was leaving quickly and we made our way home.
