The Working Group (GoM) on Casinos, Online Gaming and Horse Racing is scheduled to meet on Tuesday (July 12).
“We do not want to promote online gambling. We believe that if all this is done, 28 percent should be taxed. We also do not support gambling because it is harmful to the society and therefore more tax is better. . ” said Bhattacharya.
The government, which was formed in May 2021 and is headed by the Meghalaya Minister, Konrad Sangma, indicated in its report that horse racing, online games and casinos are all part of betting and gambling. It had proposed 28% GST on everything – compared to 18% rate for casino services, horse racing and online gaming.
An online game must be taxed on the full value of the review, including the tournament entry fee paid by the player when entering the game.

The Ministerial Group for Casinos, Online Gaming and Horse Racing will meet on July 12 to finalize its report on ways to tax activities such as gambling.

The GST Council, comprising the Center and state finance ministers, sent the proposal to the Group of Ministers (GM) for further review and set a deadline of July 15 to bring the final draft.
Speaking at the GST meeting organized by Ficci, Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister, Mr. Suresh Kumar Khanna, who is a member of the Government, said that the committee will meet on July 12.
In its report, the government confirmed that horse racing, online games or casinos are all part of betting and gambling and 28 percent GST should be levied on them.
A group of ministers led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma suggested that online games should be paid for at the full cost of the transaction, including the entry fee paid by the player while participating in the game.

In terms of racing, the Government has proposed that GST be collected on the total value of the bet and paid to the bookies.

While the Council was looking at the Government’s proposal in its meeting last week, Goa’s Minister of Industry, Mauvin Godino, stressed that there is a need for detailed information and understanding why casinos need a different tax system than horse racing and online games.
The Council then granted more time for consultation and ordered the Government to complete its report on 15 July.
