Delta Corp on Monday announced that the company’s casinos in Goa will remain closed as the state government extended the restrictions caused by Covid-19 until July 26.
“Due to the increase in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa, the Government of Goa has, inter alia, extended the restrictions in the state until July 26, 2021. They remain closed during this period,” Delta Corp said in a statement.
The company said that at this time it is not able to estimate the amount of potential losses due to the temporary closure and the outbreak of the epidemic.
However, last week the company said that its Sikkim operation has started operations from July 6. “Government of Sikkim has permitted the opening of a casino in the state subject to safety regulations being followed. Further, the company and/or its subsidiary operating the casino in the state of Sikkim will commence operations from July 6, 2021 and will follow all safety standards set by the government in this regard,” the company said.

Shares of Delta Corp traded more than 1% lower at INR 180.65 per share on the BSE on Monday.
The Goa government has extended the curfew till July 26 with the holiday and similar restrictions, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Sunday. On July 11, the state government announced a curfew until July 19.
The restrictions on movement and business, which the government called a curfew, were first imposed on May 9 and have been extended from time to time. “The state of emergency will be extended until 7 am on July 26, with similar restrictions and reliefs,” Prime Minister Pramod Sawant wrote.
During the previous holiday, shops were allowed to open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The outdoor lounge and amphitheater were also demolished to remain open.

The announcement came nearly six months after Delta Corp. granted a temporary license to operate a casino in Gangtok.
The hotel company announced in April that it has partnered with Hotel Welcome Heritage Denzong Regency for operations in Sikkim. As part of the partnership, the hotel will lease the casino to Delta Corp., which will also be “responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the new casino.” Three months later, Delta Corp. got Sikkim’s strict permission to expand into the state.
