If the BJP believes in the principle of ‘one law, one country’, how can the Congress propose a law barring Goans from entering casinos while allowing domestic tourists to enter them, asked the Congress.
If Chief Minister Pramod Sawant believes that casinos are bad for Goans, how can they not be bad for the thousands of domestic tourists who visit the coast every time, said party spokesperson Trajano D’Mello at a press conference at the state Congress headquarters. Time. year
BJP believes in ‘Akhand Bharat’ and the principle of ‘One Country, One Law’. If so, how can the Chief Minister ban Goans from casinos and allow our brothers from other states of India to play in them? He does not care about the welfare of Indians in general.
People Have Already Branded Goa As ‘casino Capital’ Of India: Minister
“If Sawant thinks casinos are poison for Goans, how can they be honey for the rest of India?” De Mello said.
Last week, Sawant had told the state assembly that Goans would be banned from entering beach and seashore casinos in the state.
“Casinos are mainly for tourists. We will soon set a date from when Goans will be banned from entering beach and seashore casinos,” Sawant said.

In recent years, the coastal state has emerged as a major tourist destination for casinos, and the steady rise in Goa’s casino industry has coincided with the rise in tourist numbers.
Is Playing Casino In India Is Legal?
De Mello said the industry should be banned immediately instead of tourists losing money in casinos in Goa.
“If casinos are harmful to Goans… they are equally harmful to non-Goans. The industry itself should be shut down,” he said.
There are currently six offshore and nine onshore casinos operating from Goa. The BJP is now accused by the opposition of going back on its promise to ban the casino industry, while the previous Congress-led coalition government allowed and licensed casinos on a large scale. Casinos in Goa are famous for their legal establishment which attracts many people from India and other foreign countries. That means huge sums of money spent in the state of Goa, and huge revenue for the local people, hotel and casino owners and the government. Sections Of Goa Public Gambling Act Amended
Gambling in India is a big issue. This issue is generally more debated due to heavy restrictions imposed. When it comes to gambling, India is not one of those countries where gamblers can easily find casinos.
Only 3 of the 29 states have legalized gambling. These states also have some restrictions on gambling, so gambling is not completely legal in India.
Gambling is illegal in India except in Goa, Sikkim and Daman. Since gambling is illegal in most of India, these states have legalized gambling by enacting statutory regulations. Gambling was permitted by the State of Goa after the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act of 1976 was enacted. But the government made minor changes in Goa after legalizing gambling.

The government has amended to allow slot machines in five-star hotels and card rooms subject to prior permission and approval of the Goa government on payment of a fixed fee.
Why Casinos Are Allowed In Goa While It’s Illegal In Rest Of The Country?
In 1992, the state of Goa began issuing gambling licenses to luxury hotels, allowing licensed businesses to operate slot machines. In 1996, they were even allowed to introduce table games like poker and roulette, such games could only be played on cruise ships and not allowed in land-based casinos.
Although Goa is the gambling capital of India, it is the smallest region in the country in terms of population. The main reason behind its success in the casino business is that Goa can be a coastal state. Therefore, it allows offshore vessel casinos in addition to land-based casinos. A total of 15 casinos and offshore casinos are operating in the country of Goa.
Being the smallest and least populated state, the main source of income is tourism. Casinos are used only by local and foreign tourists. Residents of Goa are banned from using casinos from February 2020. In fact, prior to Prohibition, casinos were not used much by locals, and only 1% of casino users were non-tourists. Therefore, this decision did not affect the gambling revenue.
The state’s 15 casinos, five of them offshore, are located on ships moored in the Mandovi River, and an estimated 15,000 guests arrive each day. The cover fee (instead of the entry fee, you can use the paid entry fee) varies from INR 2,500 to INR 5,000.

The state government earns 1.35 billion rupees ($22m; £13m) in taxes from the booming casino industry – a boon for officials at a time when state revenues have plummeted after India’s Supreme Court banned mining in Goa. Last year, the state lost the tax.
Casinos play an important role in Goa’s tourism. Tax revenues from gambling have increased in recent years. According to the fiscal relationship between the center and the state, the Goa government collects gambling tax. The Goa government collected Rs 411 crore from offshore and land-based casinos in the financial year 2018-2019. Of the tax brackets, casinos are at the highest level, with a rate of 28%.
In 2018, licenses for land-based and offshore casinos were increased. The Goa government has fixed the application fee at $32,000. All these are a very useful major income for a quick gateway from the financial crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Goa state government has plans to take the gambling industry to a new level. The plan of the plans is Macau, one of the most popular gambling centers in the world. The megacasino project is linked to the new airport project at Mopa. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this project has been affected. It is believed that the online gambling market will be regulated and the government’s budget can bring even more benefits.
